Microneedling Basics for Orlando Residents

One of the most effective treatments for anti-aging is the stimulation of your body’s natural collagen production. A procedure called microneedling helps to promote the development of collagen on a cellular level. Microneedling works by creating controlled “micro-trauma” to the tissues. This signals inflammatory markers, which in turn stimulates collagen production. By using this “shock factor” against the skin, collagen genesis will result.

How is Microneedling Performed?

Microneedling can be performed in many different ways, but the safest and most effective method is through the use of an FDA-approved medical device called the SkinPen. This hand-held device has an oscillating tip that contains tiny microneedles and is gently run along the skin, inducing the controlled micro-trauma as it goes.

Immediately after the procedure, the treatment area will have some mild to moderate redness and swelling, which typically resolves within 24-48 hours. The skin will immediately appear smoother and tighter. Microneedling helps to address skin texture issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, acne, and scarring.

Microneedling pairs very nicely with other mechanisms of promoting collagen growth, such as fractional laser treatments, chemical peels, and medical-grade skin care products. It is important to combine different “shock factor” mechanisms such as these to prevent the skin from reaching a plateau in which it no longer reacts to treatments.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

It is recommended to perform a series of at least three microneedling treatments for optimal results. You should also pair these treatments with proper skin care. This will provide the most optimal cosmetic benefits for skin resurfacing and textural irregularities.
