Blepharoplasty
in Orlando, FL

Drooping eyelids affect men and women as they age, making them look tired and run down regardless of whether they are tired or not. Kendall Peters, MD, FACS, is an Orlando board-certified plastic surgeon who performs eyelid surgery on Orange County and Central Florida patients who want a more youthful and refreshed appearance at the Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, entails tightening and removing the excess skin and tissue of the upper and lower eyelids to improve the overall appearance of the eyes. This may be done by itself or in conjunction with a facelift or brow lift. Age, sun exposure, and hereditary factors all contribute to wrinkles, puffiness, excess hanging skin, bags and deep lines around the eyes. Blepharoplasty greatly improves these unwanted physical attributes that make you look tired or aged.

Eyelid surgery is not only done for cosmetic improvement. Visual impairments from excessive overhanging upper eyelid skin can be improved with blepharoplasty. Eyelid ptosis or “droopy eyelids” can also be a significant cosmetic and functional problem which, when corrected, can result in drastic cosmetic and functional improvements.

Benefits of Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery is performed to reveal a more youthful, energetic appearance and offers the following benefits:

  • Eliminates a tired appearance
  • Removes puffiness of upper and lower lids
  • Smooths fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Improves vision that may be impaired by sagging lids

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

Incisions for upper blepharoplasty are well hidden in the natural crease of the upper eyelid. Lower blepharoplasty typically is performed through a well-hidden incision along the eyelash line. Sometimes lower blepharoplasty may be performed through a totally hidden incision inside the eyelid to remove excess bulging fat. This is referred to as transconjunctival blepharoplasty. Dr. Peters will evaluate you to determine the most appropriate approach for your individual needs. Eyelid surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia.
