Liposuction
in Orlando, FL

The Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery offers liposuction and other body contouring procedures as a way to achieve a flatter abdomen and more sculpted figure. Kendall Peters, MD, FACS is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has performed liposuction on many patients in Orlando, Orange County, and Central Florida.

About Liposuction

Conventional weight loss regimens, exercise, and healthy living may not be sufficient to remove fat deposits in certain parts of the body. Liposuction removes undesirable excess fat deposits from isolated areas, such as the hips, flanks, back, abdomen, thighs, knees, neck, and arms. Liposuction is most successful in people with good skin tone who are near normal weight yet still have localized fatty deposits. It is not a treatment for obesity. It is intended to produce a more flattering figure by improving contours and proportions. When performed by a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon, it is safe and effective. Sometimes other technology, such as ultrasound energy, may be used in conjunction with liposuction to improve the results.

The Benefits of Liposuction

Many patients request liposuction to help them acquire an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Liposuction provides physical and mental benefits that include the following:

  • The loss of excess fat helps to improve overall health.
  • Liposuction enhances your appearance.
  • Any cellulite present becomes less visible.
  • Sculpts parts of the body that are resistant to exercise and diet.
  • Eliminates unwanted and difficult fat to remove.

The Liposuction Procedure

You will be placed under general anesthesia for liposuction. Liposuction is performed through small incisions into which a cannula is inserted to remove the fatty deposits. Prior to suctioning, an injection of anesthetic solution is used to provide postoperative pain relief and reduce bleeding. Several areas can be suctioned in one operative setting, although Dr. Peters may limit the amount that can be removed safely at one time.

Liposuction Recovery

Following the procedure, most people return to work within three to five days. A compression garment is worn for several weeks following surgery to reduce bruising, facilitate healing and improve results.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost in Orlando?

Liposuction FAQs

The fat does not return to the areas of the body that have undergone liposuction, however any fat cells remaining still have the capability of enlarging. People do not typically grow new fat cells, unless in the case of morbid obesity.

The maximum amount of fat considered safe to remove in one setting is approximately 5 liters.   Beyond this amount, there is a risk of causing complications such as electrolyte imbalances.  Some states have laws that regulate how much fat can be suctioned in different types of facilities such as office OR’s, ambulatory surgery centers, and hospitals.

It is important to be at a stable weight prior to undergoing any type of body contouring procedures in order to obtain the best long term results. Eating a well balanced diet, exercising regularly, discontinuing smoking, minimizing alcohol consumption, and stopping all blood thinners are all important ways to prepare your body for the best outcome following liposuction.

You may sleep in any position following liposuction, however, most patients find that sleeping in a reclined position for the first few weeks to be the most comfortable.
