What is a Facelift?
A facelift tightens the underlying tissues of the face and neck, removes excess skin, softens deep creases and restores the natural facial angles to provide a more youthful, rested appearance. If there is excess fat in the neck or chin region, this can simultaneously be addressed with liposuction or direct excision. It is often done in combination with other procedures including a brow lift and blepharoplasty to create an overall harmonious, youthful rejuvenated result.

Today, the improvements created by facelifts last longer than ever before. The result: a refreshed, natural-looking face. There is no “correct age” to consider facial rejuvenation. People’s faces age differently depending on many extraneous influences.
What Is A Short-Scar Facelift?
A short-scar facelift is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to reconstruct and refresh the middle and lower parts of the face and, sometimes, the neck in people of both sexes through the creation of a short scar. A facelift can buff out the deep lines around the nose and mouth, reduce the loose skin that develops between the cheek and the chin along the jawline, and bring increased definition to the lower jawline.
A moderately short, smaller scar is what discerns a short-scar facelift from the traditional, full facelift. In a short-scar facelift, the scar typically begins in the hair, just above the ear, and extends into the natural crease right in front of the ear. However, rather than extending behind the ear, the scar stops at the base of the ear. The epidermis and connective tissue layer of the face are lifted and handled. In order to address fat deposits underneath the jaw, neck liposuction is often performed in conjunction with a short-scar facelift. This type of facelift is ideal for those people wanting to enhance and rejuvenate those features of the central and lower thirds of the face and around the cheeks and jawline.
Benefits of a Facelift
Facelifts allow patients to address and correct the cosmetic problems associated with the natural aging process and/or dramatic weight loss, thus offering the following benefits:
- A more youthful, rejuvenated appearance
- Uplifted facial contours
- Improved facial texture and tone
- Restored self-confidence
The Facelift Procedure
A facelift involves elevation of the skin, tightening of the facial and neck muscles, and redraping and removal of any excess skin. It is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes four to six hours to complete. Incisions are made in the natural crease in front of the ear, around the earlobe, and behind the ear. Variations on incision placement, such as the mini-facelift and short scar facelift, are also offered to meet each patient’s individual needs. Dr. Peters will determine this during your consultation.
Facelift Recovery
Postoperatively, patients may have a surgical drain overnight as well as head and neck wrappings. After these are removed, patients are often required to wear a removable chinstrap for several weeks. Sutures are usually removed seven to 10 days after surgery, but it is usually two to three weeks before most patients feel socially presentable.
How Much Does a Facelift Cost in Orlando?
The total cost for a facelift will vary by patient, depending on the extent of surgery necessary to achieve the desired result and whether other treatments or procedures were performed in conjunction with the facelift. We will review costs with you during your consultation appointment and discuss our many flexible payment options, including cash, checks, and most major credit cards. It is our desire to make our services accessible and affordable to all of our patients so we are proud to also offer financing through CareCredit®. Because most insurance companies consider cosmetic surgery to be an elective procedure, their coverage does not extend benefits towards a facelift.
Is a Facelift is Right for Me?
If you find yourself feeling self-conscious about the effects of aging and wish to restore your face to its younger version without changing your natural appearance, then a facelift may be the right choice for you.
