CoolSculpting versus Liposuction: Differences and Advantages

With the advancements in technology, there has been a rise in treatment options for unwanted fat. Some of these options require surgery, and others are non-invasive or minimally invasive.

Over the years, traditional surgical liposuction has remained the number one method for fat reduction and body contouring. Traditional liposuction involves placing an individual under general anesthesia in the operating room setting and using a suction device to remove pockets of unwanted fat from almost any area of the body.

Vaser liposuction is another technique, which combines ultrasound treatment to traditional liposuction. An ultrasound device is inserted into the fat to break up the fat cells and separate them away from the surrounding tissue, which allows more fat to be liposuctioned out in a much more efficient way and with less discomfort.

Both traditional liposuction and Vaser liposuction require about 1-2 weeks of initial down time, and most individuals are able to return to full activity by 4 weeks. Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure in which the incisions are very small and well hidden. A compression garment is recommended for 6 weeks after the procedure to encourage swelling to resolve and to maximize the aesthetic results.

The number one non-invasive technique for fat reduction and body contouring is CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting can be performed in the office setting and requires no downtime, no anesthesia, no incisions, and no physical restrictions following the procedure. It is a special machine that is connected to an applicator, which attaches to the treatment site. The applicator has a suction device, which is cooled to a controlled temperature when in contact with the skin. This will cause programmed cell death of any fat cells it comes in contact with. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they are permanently removed from the body via the lymphatic system. Final results will be evident 1-3 months following treatment.

Ideal candidates for these treatments are those who maintain a healthy body weight with diet and exercise, yet cannot get rid of stubborn pockets of fat. Schedule your consultation with CPRS today to determine which of these options will best fit your needs!
