Tummy Tuck in Orlando, FL: Good or Bad Idea?

A tummy tuck also called an abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure to remove excess abdominal tissue as well as to restore the abdominal muscles. The primary goal of a tummy tuck is to improve the aesthetic appearance and contour the abdomen, but it can also address abnormalities such as rectus diastasis and certain types of abdominal hernias. Rectus diastasis is a condition in which the rectus abdominis muscles are separated at the midline as a result of pregnancy, poor tissue quality, or changes in weight.

What is an Alternative to a Tummy Tuck?

Sometimes a mini tummy tuck can be performed if there is only a small amount of excess skin and lower abdominal tissue that requires removal, and if the underlying abdominal muscles are still intact. This less invasive procedure only addresses the lower abdomen below the belly button. Not every individual is a candidate for this. It is best to be evaluated prior to making any surgical decisions.

Who Qualifies for a Tummy Tuck?

Although tummy tucks are very popular for women, men can also qualify for tummy tucks. Oftentimes men struggle with changes in weight as well, which can result in an excess amount of abdominal skin and fatty tissue.

It is important to understand that a tummy tuck is not meant to be a weight loss procedure. It is intended for individuals that maintain a healthy weight (BMI less than 35) but still struggle with excess abdominal skin, fatty tissue, or poor muscle quality despite diet and exercise.

What is the Recovery Time?

The recovery time is about 4-6 weeks before returning to light exercise, and 3-6 months before returning to heavy exercise. Most people are able to resume their daily routine after 2-4 weeks.

After surgery, is important to maintain a healthy and stable body weight with proper diet and exercise to maintain long-lasting results. It is best to wait 6 months to a year after a massive change in body weight before proceeding with a tummy tuck to prepare for the best outcome.
