The TRAM (Transverse Rectus Abdomens Myocutaneous) flap utilizes the abdominal tissue to reconstruct a woman’s breast or breasts. It involves a similar method as a tummy tuck procedure as well as some of the rectus abdominus muscle, which provides blood to the skin and fat. The TRAM flap traditionally delivers sufficient tissue to the breast for reconstruction and results in no necessity for an implant being used.
