What is Chin Reduction?

Having a pronounced chin can make the other features of the face look small and out of proportion. Chin reduction surgery improves the appearance of your skin by making the features of your face look balanced. Dr. Peters will meet with you to discuss how the surgery can enhance your features and proportions. He will gladly answer your questions and address any issues.

Benefits of Chin Reduction Surgery

Chin reductions can improve a person's overall appearance and increase their self-esteem. Altering the chin can also create a proportionate facial balance between the nose and chin. It is possible to combine a chin reduction with a facelift or rhinoplasty to create a refined look.

Chin Reduction Surgery Procedure

A chin reduction surgery is a cosmetic procedure that aims to make the face more symmetrical, creating a better-looking profile. A chin that extends too far from the face or is too large can affect how the other features of the face appear. Chin reduction surgery produces a well-defined chin that adds balance and compliments the contours and size of the other facial features.

During the surgery, Dr. Peters will make incisions in the underside of the chin or to the inside of the lip. Similar to a chin augmentation surgery, a chin reduction has very little or no post-surgery scarring. The minimal amounts of scarring are due to the hidden incision placement.

Through the incisions, Dr. Peters removes and reshapes the chin's bone structure to create a more symmetrical face. Another benefit of a chin reduction is the added confidence patients’ gain by improving their appearance. If further definition is necessary, he may use liposuction to contour the neck and chin.

Associated Chin Reduction Procedures

For a dramatic change to your facial features, Dr. Peters may suggest combining the chin reduction with another cosmetic procedure such as rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty and chin reduction surgery complement each other with regard to the balance and proportion of the facial features. At your consultation, ask Dr. Peters about the other procedures that can help enhance your face. Blepharoplasty, brow lift and a facelift are examples of these procedures that can complement a chin reduction.

Chin Reduction Recovery

Patients will need 10 days to recover. Physical activity should be restricted for six weeks to prevent any injury to the chin and allow proper healing. You may also experience some swelling for several weeks following the procedure.

It is also advised that you limit how often you chew. Try to consume soft foods and liquids while you recover.

How Much Does Chin Reduction Cost in Orlando?

The cost of your chin reduction procedure depends on the nature of the surgery and whether you combine this procedure with others. The cost is discussed during your consultation. You and Dr. Peters will also discuss payment options that include financing using CareCredit® and payment plans. The Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery also accepts most major credit cards, cash, and checks as payment.
