	Ear Surgery

Ear surgery or otoplasty is performed to improve or reshape disproportionate or prominent ears. This condition may result from failure of the ear cartilage to fold properly during development. Otoplasty helps reposition the ears closer to the head or decreases the size of large ears. Usually this is accomplished by reshaping the ear cartilage through incisions made behind the ear in order to put the ears in proper alignment with the face. Surgery can be done on adults as well as children, although children should typically wait until age 5 or 6 when the ear is fully developed.
