Following weight reduction surgery or after any substantial weight loss, significant amounts of excess skin may remain. This skin and tissue which has been severely stretched lacks elasticity and cannot conform to the new body size. Unfortunately exercise and further weight loss will not resolve this. Body contouring procedures address these areas where excess skin and tissue remain—namely the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms, breasts, and back. Some of the procedures routinely performed after major weight loss are the circumferential lower body lift, thigh lift, arm lift, abdominoplasty, and a variety of breast surgical procedures. Each patient’s individual needs are assessed by our surgeons at CPRS to choose the best surgical procedures for them. The result is a smoother, tighter body with much improved body contour and tone. It is extremely important that a person’s weight be stable for at least 6 months prior to undergoing body contouring procedures in order to obtain the very best results. Depending upon the length and number of procedures required and the patient’s age and overall health, your surgeon may recommend these operations be divided into two or more separate stages.
